UNDATED - Hall County's elections director is hopeful that voter turnout will meet or exceed her expectations based on the number of voters who had cast a ballot by 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Charlotte Sosebee said during the first three hours that the polls were open, 3,476 voters cast ballots.

She said if voting continues at that same pace throughout the day, voter turnout will easily reach the 16 percent she predicted at the end of advance voting Monday.

Even though there's no big statewide draw at the polls like the T-splost was on July 31, other area elections directors are also still looking for a fairly good turnout for Tuesday's primary runoff election.

The 9th District GOP Congressional runoff likely will spark the greatest interest in the northeast corner of the state. Doug Collins and Martha Zoller finished within a fraction of a percentage point of one another in the General Primary. Since then, the two have been vying - sometimes contentiously - for the 17% of voters who cast ballots for Roger Fitzpatrick.

Runoffs for sheriff's races in Hall, Forsyth, Jackson and Banks counties also are expected to generate voter interest.

Commission runoffs in Hall and Forsyth counties have sparked voter interest, and some heated debate, as well.
