Softball: Buford finishes Leadoff Classic 5-0

NORCROSS -- The Buford softball team put together an impressive showing over the weekend at the Georgia Dugout Club's Leadoff Classic Tournament in Norcross.

The Lady Wolves finished the tournament 5-0, including three wins on Saturday. Buford defeated Loganville 5-1, First Presbyterian Day 6-3 and Northview 6-4.

In addition Buford standout Bria was named to the All-Tournament team. Bush batted .455 over the weekend, with five hits, and three RBIs. She also dominated on the mound, winning games against Wesleyan and Loganville, ending the tournament with an 0.64 ERA. Opponent's batted only .114 against her.

Bush pitched a complete game in Buford's first win of Saturday -- her third victory of the season -- with a defeat of Loganville. Bush allowed two hits, struck out three and walked one.

Freshman Drew Puckett helped lead the way at the plate, ripping a double and two RBIs. Senior Jazmin Hawkins also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while junior Niki Cook was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Bush also had an RBI.

In Game 2 Saturday, Buford came from behind to defeat First Presbyterian, with sophomore Emily Crocker earning the win in relief -- the first of her varsity career. Crocker pitched two innings, allowing two hits, with two walks. Sophomore second baseman Sydney Stavro broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run triple to seal the victory. Cook also had two hits, a double, a run scored and a stolen base. Hasty had two RBIs and a run scored. Hawkins went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Senior Bekah Rude and freshman Kennedy Kotula combined for the victory over Northview in Game 3. Rude pitched two innings, allowed three hits, three runs (one earned), and struck out two. Kotula got the save (her first), pitching two innings, while allowing one hit, one run (unearned), with a walk.

Long led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Bush also finished 2-for-2. Rude also had an RBI and a hit, while freshman Baylee Sexton, Hasty, and Hawkins all had an RBI for the Wolves.

Buford outscored its opponents by a margin of 29-8 during the tourney.
