Softball: Jackson Co. opens with shutout win

JEFFERSON -- The Jackson County softball team opened the 2012 season with a 1-0 win over Oglethorpe County on Monday in Jefferson.<br /> <br /> Sophomore Jessica Baker pitched seven innings for the Lady Panthers (1-0), striking out seven batters and giving up only three hits.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, sophomore Peyton Sorrells helped lead the Jackson offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Seniors Victoria Fontana and Andrea Ledford and Baker and Cassie Satterfield also had one hit apiece. Freshman Madi Pecht scored the game's only run after stealing two bases after entering as a courtesy runner for Baker. <br /> <br /> The Lady Panthers will play host to Archer at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
