GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Police Department has issued a reminder about school-related traffic as city schools get set to begin a new year Friday.

Capt. Carol Martin is urging that motorists steer clear of streets around schools if possible unless you have business at a particular school.

Capt. Martin notes that the major traffic back up occurs around the elementary schools, especially Enota and Centennial.

"We would like to ask for everyone's cooperation and patience on the roadway. If you aren't dropping your children off at school please consider other routes. We want the first day of school to be as safe as possible."

Schools also begins Friday for students in the Hall County system.
