JACKSON, Miss. - Authorities say a Texas man has pleaded guilty in Mississippi to transporting illegal immigrants.

A news release from the U. S. attorney's office says Jonathan Garcia-Ramirez was pulled over on Interstate 20 in Rankin County on April 15. There were 10 illegal immigrants from Mexico in the van he was driving.

The trip originated in Houston, Texas, with Ramirez's first passenger to be dropped off in Atlanta. He then planned to head to New York and New Jersey before returning to Texas. Ramirez was to be paid $1,500 for transporting the illegal immigrants to various cities.

Ramirez will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate in Jackson on Oct. 18. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
