GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after being found guilty of murdering his girlfriend's daughter last summer.

Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh said a jury found Stephen Clark West guilty on all of the charges, including malice murder and cruelty to children.

Eighteen-month-old Kaylee Kipp's body was found last summer in a unit at the On Riverside Condominium complex in Gainesville.

Her mother and West's girlfriend at the time, 24-year-old Deanna Kipp, is also facing a murder charge in the case and is awaiting trial.

West's trial began last week.

Court documents showed the couple is accused of assaulting the child with an unspecified "blunt object" sometime between June 11 and 12, 2011, causing swelling of the brain and death.
