FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch Police and the U.S. Secret Service have arrested two people in a counterfeit money case.

Flowery Branch Police Lt. David Spillers said the arrests happened Monday.

31 year old Justin Louis Nickell and 28 year old Lois Renee Samples have state charges of first and second degree forgery.

Spillers said the state doesn't have a counterfeiting statute, hence the involvement of secret service.

"They do have counterfeiting statutes and statutes that cover the production of such notes," Spillers said.

Spillers said a search of Nickell's home at 5908 Mitchell Street turned up samples of counterfeit $50's and materials used to make them. Authorities seized several items while executing the warrant, including a computer, printer, memory storage devices and bleaching fluids used in the counterfeiting process.

Police began their investigation late last week after they determined Nickell allegedly had passed various amounts and denominations of counterfeit bills in Flowery Branch and other areas.

"He (Nickell) was subsequently identified, based upon photographs and video imaging," Spillers said.

According to police, Nickell had been arrested last month in Gwinnett County, allegedly in possession of a counterfeit $100 bill.

As far as Samples, police said she lives at the same address as Nickell. She was picked up at her place of employment in Gwinnett County after authorities said they learned she had passed several counterfeit notes she received from Nickell.

Spillers said he's worked with secret service before and that they're a good group to work with.

"They're very helpful. They're able to do a lot of things that we are not able to do, just a great group of men and women," Spillers said.

He said the case continues, and more arrests are possible.
