CLEVELAND - If weather cooperates, Georgia Department of Transportation officials expect work to ramp up over the next few days on the construction of the Cleveland Bypass in White County.

According to DOT, work zone signage is in place and preliminary survey work is set to go.

The work of clearing the route for the bypass is slated to begin late this month or early next, according to Georgia DOT District Engineer Bayne Smith.

The nearly two mile phase one of the bypass begins at Hope Drive at U.S. 129 and extends northwest to State Route 115. The price tag is $16,754,384. The contract calls for a December completion in 2014.

Sunbelt Structures of Tucker has the contract for construction.
