Underage drinking cost the citizens of Georgia $1.7 billion in 2007. According to the state Department of Education s 2010 Georgia Student Health Survey, most Hall County 10th graders had not used alcohol 30 days prior to the survey. However, 64.9% of those same 10th graders reported that they think it is easy to get alcohol. The most documented principle in alcohol use prevention is: Make it harder for young people to get alcohol, and they will drink less. Research shows that educating owners and managers of retail establishments as well as employees is a key component to reducing availability.
RASS workshops provide owners and licensees with the tools they need to implement policies, procedures, training, and enforcement that have been proven to increase employee compliance and reduce risks. Workshop participants feedback reports that over 98% of participants agreed or strongly agreed that they benefitted from the training and would recommend the workshop to others. Cobb County has required all licensees since 2002 to attend a RASS workshop prior to obtaining an alcohol license. Cobb s Compliance Rate increased from 77% in 2006 to 90% in 2010.
