CUMMING - A South Forsyth County High School football player is recovering after collapsing during practice this week.

Channel 2 News reports that the 17 year old collapsed with painful body cramping near the end of the team's practice Thursday morning.

Authorities say he was rushed to Northside/Forsyth Hospital where he was held overnight for treatment and observation.

South Forsyth County High School Principal Jeff Cheney said the student may have suffered from a nutritional deficiency and dehydration rather than heat stress. He said school coaches took every precaution to ensure the safety of student athletes during the summer heat.
