Low lake levels create hazards on Lanier

Posted 3:18PM on Friday 3rd August 2012 ( 11 years ago )
UNDATED - Once again, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is watching Lake Lanier descend.

Lake Lanier is about three feet below where it was this time last year, and it's reached a point where the Corps is having to warn boaters of hazards and boat ramps are being closed.

"About 19 lanes out of the approximately 100 lanes we have on the lake are closed, so just about 20 percent are closed at this point in time," said Corps Spokesman Tim Rainey.

Rainey said they are marking channels and hazards with buoys... and waiting for rain.

"If we could get some better weather patterns, I'd prefer that, but here we are," he said.

The level of Lake Lanier Friday afternoon was 1,062.96
