FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch officials have made preliminary approval of an ordinance that could require all restaurant servers in the city to be trained in safe alcohol service.

The city council approved 1st reading on the proposal Thursday night, according to city clerk Marja Burney.

The change would require servers to get online ServSafe training prior to getting their servers permit.

According to an executive summary from the city, the Georgia Restaurant Association endorsement of the program recommends the certification be good for three years.

At present, 75 percent of servers must be alcohol awareness servers in Flowery Branch. That certification is only good for a year.

Second reading on the measure is scheduled on August 16th.
