ALPHARETTA - Forsyth County authorities have identified the boy from Cumming who drowned in an apartment complex swimming pool as Stephon Alston.

The seven-year-old drowned Sunday in a pool in a South Forsyth apartment complex.

According to officers on the scene, the child had been playing at the pool at 3100 Preston Pointe Way in the Centennial Apartments in the Windermere subdivision off of Ga. Hwy. 20 East.

The child's father had left the pool area to go to the restroom to wipe off his face after he had been pushed into the pool, according to police reports. When the father came back, he saw his son's swimsuit at the bottom of the pool and then realized that his son was not resurfacing. The father then jumped into the pool and pulled his son out.

Residents at the pool started CPR on the child until deputies arrived on the scene. Two Forsyth County sheriff's deputies took over CPR until emergency responders arrived. The child was then transported to Northside Hospital Forsyth where he was later pronounced dead.

Deputies said the child was pulled from an area of the pool that was three to five feet deep. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m.

The drowning remains under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Special Victim's Unit.
