Alcohol a factor in accident that hospitalized two people

GAINESVILLE - Two people are in serious condition after wreck on Jesse Jewell Parkway Sunday afternoon.

According to Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell, the call came in around 3:45 p.m. Sunday of a 2 vehicle accident on Jesse Jewell Parkway, just east of Spring Street in the New Holland area.

Upon arrival, authorities found a 1999 Ford truck overturned down an embankment. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Peyton Jefferey Bazzell of Lula, was trapped inside the vehicle.

An air ambulance was called in to transport the other passenger in the truck, 23-year-old Brandon Cordell Chadwick of Gainesville; Bazzell was transported via ground ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Both were reported in serious condition.

Georgia State Patrol investigators stated the accident happened when Bazzell struck a 2004 BMW X5 being driven by 28-year-old Anthony Charles Cook of Lula in the rear. Bazzell lost control of his vehicle, crossing the median twice before leaving the road and hitting a tree down an embankment.

Bazzell has been charged with driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle and following too closely.

No one in the BMW was injured.
