CUMMING - Forsyth County authorities confirm that the man pulled from Lake Lanier Thursday afternoon has died.

"A 44-year-old adult male was found at 3:46 p.m.," said Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers.

Shivers said the recovery occurred approximately 45 minutes after he was reported missing.

"Now that's critical because that's well within the first hour of the drowning, and the drowning was a witnessed event by family and friends," he said.

Shivers said the man was recovered in 11 feet of water, 50 feet from shore in the area of West Bank Park off Buford Dam Road.

He said authorities performed CPR on the man and transported him to Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Karleen Chalker said the man was pronounced dead at the hospital. She said his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Chalker said the drowning victim had arrived in the Cumming area a few days ago from Mexico. She said he was in town to visit family.
