Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope Thursday morning said the signal plans, submitted by RaceTrac and the city of Gainesville, have been approved, but the paperwork process continued in Atlanta.
The company, city and state are working together on the project at the intersection, the site of 15 reported accidents since the first of the year.
In an e-mail Thursday, RaceTrac Marketing Programs Manager Terrica Oglesby said after approved permits are received, it will take about 30 days for the work.
The work includes the signal lights and flashing beacons to warn motorists of the light they're approaching, according to Oglesby.
Workers will also tweak existing striping in the intersection to allow for the new crosswalk striping. Crosswalks and Pedestrian crossing signals are also expected to be put in, according to Oglesby.
Pope said she hopes to have the signed papers in the Gainesville DOT office by the end of next week.
Once complete, DOT will inspect the signal to make sure it's installed according to the permits and standards. Following that, the routine signal testing will commence, according to Pope.
