OAKWOOD - Another German based company broke ground Friday morning in Oakwood's Tanners Creek Business Park.

When Atlanta Biologicals opens its 36,000 square foot building late next year, it promises 30 initial new jobs and a $7-million to $8-million investment with its North American headquarters for research, development and production.

Company president Renate Gerle said Atlanta Biologicals picked the Hall County site for several reasons, including economic development.

"Hall County was our number one because it has such a wonderful economic development plan," Gerle said. "It supports businesses and we got personalized individual attention. The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce was wonderful in supporting our search. It's a beautiful area and the quality of life is magnificent."

Atlanta Biologicals is the second German firm to break ground in the Tanners Creek Park this year. The company researches and manufactures cell culture products for the bio medical and bio pharmaceutical industry.

"We are a bio-tech company which is a fairly new and growing industry," Gerle added. "Hall County is focused on life science and we just determined it's the perfect place for our company."

Joining Gerle at the podium and the groundbreaking ceremony were Atlanta Biologicals CEO Gerhard Baade, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver and Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kit Dunlap.

Baade said his company began its bio medical research in the 1970's, establishing one of the first life science manufacturers in Germany that found a viable North American market.

"Today is a bench mark for Atlanta Biologicals as the start of the construction completes a history of steady growth since our humble launch 20 years ago," Baade said.

Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Vice President Tim Evans said Atlanta Biologicals joins a large community of life science firms.

"They join a big community of 15 international businesses from different countries represented in Hall County with over 40 firms," Evans said. " Hall County does very well with international subsidiaries because we have the talent for the CEO and management positions but we also have a great skilled work force these companies are looking for."
