GAINESVILLE - Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell has been tapped to serve as a surrogate for the Mitt Romney Presidential campaign.

Bell will join Romney at the NAACP conference Wednesday in Houston, Texas.

Bell appeared on WDUN morning news Tuesday.

"You know, when a nominee calls you and asks for your help, you support it. If you're a Republican and you support a change of leadership in the White House then you definitely sign up," Bell said.

Bell, who served as a surrogate for Newt Gingrich earlier, got the call over the weekend. He's a part of a conference call that will help Romney hone his speech for the NAACP appearance.

Bell said he's glad Romney chose to make the appearance.

"We definitely understand that this will be a challenge, but I appreciate him stepping up to the plate to reach out to all Americans to try and earn their vote."

Bell has a busy season ahead of him. He's also part of the Georgia delegation to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

Bell, an attorney is also in a campaign of his own for re-election. He faces small business owner Jeff Stowe in the Republican primary for Hall County Commission post four. The primary winner takes the seat, as no democrats qualified to run.
