GAINESVILLE - North Georgia can expect a break in the above normal temperatures this week and an end to the string of 90-plus days.

The AccuWeather forecast calls for highs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to be in the 80s - 89 on Tuesday, 85 on Wednesday and 81 on Thursday. The average high for each of those three days is 88.

Monday's forecast high is 93. If it reaches the 90s, it would be the twelfth straight day of daytime readings of 90 or above. The peak during that string was 102 on June 29 and 30 and July 1. Daytime temperatures during the span ranged from one degree above normal on June 26 and 27 to 17 degrees higher than average on each of those three days when the temperature topped out at 102.

Rain is also in the forecast this week. June ended with 2.37 inches recorded at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville but all of that fell during the first eleven days of the month. So far in July, the airport has recorded .06 inches. AccuWeather says the best chance of rain this week will come on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
