DAHLONEGA - Charges have been filed against the driver at fault in a three-vehicle accident in Dahlonega Thursday afternoon that injured a total of nine people.

Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Mark Cox said three helicopters responded to the wreck on Highway 60 near Achasta Golf Course, transporting two patients to Grady Memorial Hospital and a third to Atlanta Medical Center. He said five others were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ground ambulance.

Cox said the female driver of the Honda Civic rear-ended an SUV waiting in the northbound lanes to turn left into Appalachian Outfitters. He said that pushed the SUV into the southbound lane, where it hit a Mercedes head-on.

He said the driver of the Honda, who sustained minor injuries in the crash but was not transported, has been charged with following too close and may face additional charges.

All lanes of Highway 60 were shut down while emergency units responded to the wreck, which occurred just before 4 p.m. Thursday.
