The National Weather Service says both Atlanta and Columbus recorded their hottest-ever temperatures Saturday at 106 degrees. That means Atlanta snapped its all-time record of 105 degrees from 1980. Columbus' previous all-time-hottest record was just a day old.
Still, those weren't the hottest places to be in Georgia on Saturday. Macon hit a blistering 108 degrees, tying its hottest-day-on-record from 1980.
Thermometers in Athens topped out at 107 degrees. That's just a little cooler than Friday, when Athens broke its all-time heat record with 109 degrees.
In northeast Georgia, triple-digit readings were common in many places, as well. The high in both Gainesville and Braselton was 100, one-degree hotter than the old records for the date which were set in 1952. The high in Cumming was 104; the old record was 99 which was also set in 1952. Cornelia topped out at 99 Saturday.
Things weren't quite as sizzling on Georgia's coast. Savannah fell 2-degrees short of its daily record high of 102 set in 1998.
It was the second straight day of record or near-record highs in North Georgia and more of the same is expected through at least Tuesday.

The high at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville Saturday was 100, topping by one degree the record set in 1952.
