ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks have selected Vanderbilt shooting guard John Jenkins with the 23rd pick in newly named general manager Danny Ferry's first NBA draft with the team.

The 6-foot-4 Jenkins led the Southeastern Conference in scoring two straight seasons, including his average of 19.9 points as a junior in the 2011-12 season. He made at least one 3-pointer in in his last 60 games.

Ferry was named the Hawks' president of basketball operations and general manager on Monday. He scouted draft prospects in his former role as vice president of basketball operations for the Spurs.

The Hawks also took Virginia power forward Mike Scott with the 43rd pick in the NBA draft.

The 23-year-old Scott averaged 18 points and 8.3 rebounds as a senior.

At 6-foot-8 and 237 pounds, Scott lacks ideal size for an inside player in the NBA but was a strong rebounder in college. He led the Atlantic Coast Conference with his 56.3-percent shooting while ranking second in scoring and fifth in rebounds.
