BRASELTON - A major farm and ranch store chain is closing their Braselton distribution center, which currently employs 170 people.

Executives of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Tractor Supply Company said they've outgrown the facility they've been leasing on Highway 124 in Braselton.

The company plans to build a new 650,000-square-foot facility in Bibb County, which they said could open by fall 2013.

Gregory Sandfort, the company's president and chief operating officer, said the company needed a building closer to the Port of Savannah and closer to interstates.

"Tractor Supply has been a member the Braselton business community for many years, and we want to thank our business partners and customers for their loyalty and business during that time period," Sandfort said. "This was a business decision based on many factors, and it was not a reflection on the Team or the community. We needed to have a physical building that could better support our growth requirements."

According to a company press release, Tractor Supply is helping its Braselton team members find careers elsewhere in the company as well as offering relocation assistance and/or severance packages to those affected workers.
