GAINESVILLE - Under a new law in Georgia, residents in Hall County and across the state will notice some changes to the jury selection process come July first.

According to Hall County Clerk of Court Charles Baker, every resident of the county who is 18 or older, who votes or has a driver's license will be eligible for jury duty.

"The changes will also allow grand jurors to be picked from the same pool as the trial jurors," Baker said.

As part of the changes, a new jury list will be created that will not have all the historical information about jurors. That includes medical or legal reasons why someone had been removed from the previous Hall County jury list.

If you've been previously removed from the list and are summoned, you can call the clerk's office to update the new list, according to Baker.

Also under the changes, the role of the jury commission will be to approve jurors' requests for permanent excusal from jury service, according to the law.
