GAINESVILLE - The parolee who lead Hall County authorities on a chase Tuesday is now facing additional charges in the case.

Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said the incident started Tuesday afternoon when 39-year-old Michael John Barnier, Jr. ran from the probation office on Aviation Boulevard after he was told he had an outstanding felony warrant from out of state.

Wilbanks said Barnier escaped on foot from the probation office and then jumped in his truck, where his juvenile-aged daughter was waiting.

A probation officer gave chase, according to Wilbanks.

"[The officer] got into the back of Mr. Barnier's truck and then was taken down the interstate at a high rate of speed," said Wilbanks.

The incident ended when Barnier stopped his truck in Flowery Branch and ran into a wooded area; he was caught in the woods by canine teams from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, according to Wilbanks.

Wilbanks said Barnier remains jailed in Hall County and faces a long list of charges.

"He's been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, two misdemeanor counts of obstruction of officer, one count of felony obstruction of officer, interference of government property, fleeing and attempting to elude-felony grade, reckless driving, cruelty to children second degree-which is a felony-and no driver's license."

The Georgia State Patrol and the Flowery Branch Police Department also assisted in the apprehension of Barnier.
