GATLINBURG, Tenn. -- It was a record-setting day for Georgia IronDawgs Tim "T" Moon and C.J. Allen of Gainesville on Sunday at the Southern Powerlifting Federation National Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships at the Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Both Moon and Allen set personal records (PR) in winning their respective classes and qualifying for the SPF World Championships later this year. Allen squatted 720 pounds; then 760 before finishing with a PR of 800 pounds. His bench opener of 505 tied his meet PR. He missed his last two attempts at 550. He hit 550 pounds on his deadlift opener and pulled 600 on his second before passing on his third lift. He totaled 1,905 pounds, a Georgia state record.

"I was really nervous having 800 pounds on my back for the first time ever," Allen said as he won first in the equipped junior 275-pound, multi-ply fullpower class.

As for Moon, the trip did double-duty for him as he and his wife Karen celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in Gatlinburg. He had additional cause for celebration when he took the SPF national title.

"It was a pretty quick turn around for me having lifted only two weeks ago in Atlanta (where he won at the American Powerlifting Committee Nationals on June 1); but I felt pretty strong," Moon said as he took the title in the master's men's 275-pound, 45-49-year-old, bench-only, multi-ply division.

Moon opened with a bench press of 650 pounds, which he pushed up easily.

"I smoked 710 on my second attempt for the world record," he said. "I missed 725 on my third -- couldn't quite lock it out. I was a little winded I guess... I'm blessed," Moon added. "God has made me strong."

The 710 was a meet personal record for Moon who now has two more national titles to his credit in about as many weeks.

The SPF/WBPLA World Meet is Sept. 29-30 in Manchester, Tenn.
