LAWRENCEVILLE -- Jair Jurrjens was masterful for 8 innings of scoreless baseball as the Gwinnett Braves defeated Rochester, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field. Christian Marrero delivered game's lone run with a sixth-inning RBI triple that scored Ernesto Mejia. With the victory, Gwinnett claims the season series, 5-3 over the Red Wings.

The right-handed Jurrjens (W, 3-2) needed just 108 pitches to get through eight innings of baseball, and did so without yielding a walk all afternoon. He struck out five while surrendering just three hits in the game en route to his first win since May 11. Cory Gearrin (S, 6) recorded his fourth consecutive save as he retired the side in a perfect ninth inning. Gearrin struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Both teams struggled to score any runs and were locked in a pitcher's duel in front of 4,169 fans. However, the G-Braves pushed across the lone run of the day in the sixth when Marrero laced a ball down the right field line. Rochester right fielder Wilkin Ramirez hesitated to throw the ball back in to the infield, allowing Mejia to score from first base. Marrero's first triple of the season gave Gwinnett a 1-0 lead.

The G-Braves had a promising start to then afternoon when the first two runners of the game reached base in the bottom of the first inning. All would be for naught as Stefan Gartrell's blistering shot to left field was caught by a diving Michael Hollimon and turned into a double play. The G-Braves recorded three hits in the inning but couldn't come up with anything to show for it. Felix Pie and Mejia were the only Gwinnett players to record multiple-hit games on a day that saw the club register seven total hits.

Spot starter Brendan Wise turned in 3.0 scoreless innings for Rochester. Reliever Casey Fien (L, 0-5) yielded the only run of the day over 2.0 innings of work. Carlos Gutierrez and left-hander Tyler Robertson combined for 3.0 scoreless innings for Rochester.

Sean Burroughs went 2-for-3, accounting for two of the three hits for the Red Wings on the day.

With the victory, the International League South-leading Gwinnett Braves (30-20) became the second team in the league to record 30 wins this season, joining Pawtucket (31-19 to start the day).

The G-Braves continue the homestand as they begin a four-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Monday night at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Julio Teheran (4-2, 2.98) is scheduled to start for Gwinnett, while Lehigh Valley counters with right-hander Dave Bush (4-3, 2.73). The game will be broadcast on radio on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play. The television broadcast will air live on CSS.

The Gwinnett Braves honor Memorial Day on Monday night at Coolray Field with players and coaches wearing special camouflage jerseys sponsored by Kipper Tool. Those jerseys will be auctioned off following the game, with proceeds benefitting Fisher House. A special Memorial Day Fireworks extravaganza follows the game. Monday night is also another Kids Eat Free Monday, where all kids 12 and under will receive a voucher for a free hot dog, bag of chips and a small soda.
