The Towns County Sheriff's Office, Appalachian Drug Task Force and Hiawassee Police ran warrants at the Hiawassee Fruit and Vegetable Market in downtown Hiawassee Wednesday and made three arrests, according to Sheriff Chris Clinton.
Sheriff Clinton said they arrested Frank D. Cox, Kevin M. Reynolds and Gene Kirby, all of Hiawassee, on a long list of drug-related charges. He said they were all employees of the market and were running the drug operation out of the business. Clinton said it does not appear that the owners of the market were involved.
Clinton said the arrests came after several months of investigation in both Towns County and Clay County, N.C. He said authorities seized marijuana, hydrocodone, methamphetamine, two dozen quarts of liquor and a large amount of cash in the Hiawassee search.
Meanwhile, other information led to a search warrant at a residence in Hayesville, North Carolina.
Three North Carolina residents were arrested by the Clay County Sheriff's office on several felony warrants issued by the Appalachian Drug Task Force. Authorities also seized marijuana and close to $20,000 cash there, according to Sheriff Clinton. Those names were not immediatly released.
The investigation into both locations continues, according to Clinton, and more arrests are possible.
