GAINESVILLE - Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver says he will run for re-election.

Oliver made the official announcement in a press release Thursday morning. A poultry and cattle farmer, Oliver lives in the Chestnut Mountain area.

He has held the seat on the Hall County Commission since 2005.

In the release, Oliver said he would appreciate the opportunity to continue serving Hall County residents.

"Ultimately, I want to create a Hall County that encourages our children and grandchildren to stay here, where there are ample job opportunities, a world class educational system and a quality of life that you can't find anywhere else," Oliver said.

Former Hall County Sheriff Dick Mecum has also declared his intentions to run for the commission chairmanship.
