ATHENS - A candlelight vigil is planned to mark one year since Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian was gunned down in the line of duty.

The vigil is set for 7:45 p.m. on March 22 in the parking lot outside the west police precinct at Georgia Square Mall. The 34-year-old officer was assigned to the precinct at the mall.

Jamie Hood is charged with murder in the shooting of Christian on March 22. Hood is also accused of attempting to kill Senior Police Officer Tony Howard.

Hood made a court appearance earlier this week, demanding that the judge in the case recuse himself.
