WATKINSVILLE -- The White County girls basketball team pushed top-seeded Oconee County for four quarters but couldn't complete the upset bid, falling 57-50 in the Region 8-AAA quarterfinals on Thursday night in Watkinsville.

The Lady Warriors (12-14) trailed 25-24 at halftime and knotted the score at 40-40 after three quarters before Oconee clinched the victory with less than a minute to play.

Gabrielle Bevillard scored a game-high 28 points and ripped down 11 rebounds to lead Oconee, which qualified for the 8-AAA semifinals with the win.

Riley Slaton scored 12 points to pace White County, which saw its season come to a close. Despite the loss the Lady Warriors posted their best win total since 2007.

Chestatee awaits Oconee on Friday in a 7 p.m. showdown at Gainesville High.
