ATHENS -- After plenty of good news midweek -- thanks to a strong class during National Signing Day -- the University of Georgia's football team headed into the weekend on a down note.

The Bulldogs announced Friday the dismissal of three freshman football players for a violation of team rules.

Sanford Seay of Leesburg, Nick Marshall of Rochelle, and Chris Sanders of Tucker are no longer with the team after meeting with coach Mark Richt.

All three were back-ups, though defensive backs Marshall and Sanders were expected to play key roles off the bench.

"It's a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University," said Richt in an announcement published on the Bulldogs' athletic website. "Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education."
