Hall County Public Information Officer Katie Crumley said that on a typical day, the county landfill processes about 65 tons of trash. As of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, the landfill had already processed 165 tons and Billy Patterson, who operates the East Crescent Drive landfill, said the busiest part of the day is between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m.
While the county has work details assisting at the busiest compactor sites like Sardis Road and Murrayville in north Hall, there was no work detail at the East Crescent Drive location.
Still, Patterson said the day had gone smoothly. "This afternoon, we've had about five cars per hour and we haven't had to put anything on the ground."
At Murrayville, where a work detail was present, operator Lee Chastain said
the day had been extremely busy.
"They've had these big tandem trucks parked over here all morning," Chastain said. "About every hour, one will leave going to the landfill. It takes probably 50 cars to fill that truck up. So, that gives you some idea.
Christmas trees were already being discarded at the Sardis Road and Murrayville sites. The Bring One for the Chipper program will collect the trees and turn them into mulch to be distributed to area residents.
Crumley said she expects the compactors to be extremely busy for the next five or six days.
