Gainesville veterinarian elected president of state Veterinary Medical Assn.

ATLANTA - Dr. Denise Funk of Gainesville has been elected president of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA). The election took place during the GVMA's 2012 Fall Convention.

Dr. Funk is a partner at Animal Medical Care of Gainesville, an AAHA-certified small animal practice. She has practiced veterinary medicine for more than 20 years in Hall County and is native of Hall County. Dr. Funk's degrees include an Associate Degree from Gainesville College, a Bachelor of Science from Berry College, a Master of Science from University of Georgia, and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University Of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine.

In addition to her new appointment as president of the GVMA, Dr. Funk is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Animal Hospitals (AAHA). An active volunteer, she is a member of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, a sustainer of the Junior Service League of Hall County, a member of Interactive Network for Kids (INK), the Gainesville Athletic Club and PTA, a mentor for Hall County mentoring program and a member of and Sunday school teacher at Lakewood Baptist Church.

Dr. Funk and her family (husband Gary, son Joseph and daughter Rachel) reside in Gainesville. Their pets include labrador Rose, pug Tootie and two cats, Frank and Sidney.
