ATHENS - The man who has admitted he killed an Athens-Clarke County police officer Friday met the new judge who will hear his case.

Atlanta's Fox 5 was in the courtroom in Athens and noted that Haggard told Hood he would still have to work his case through proper channels.

"If there is something that you need me to consider regarding your representation, get with your counsel and file an appropriate motion for that," said Haggard.

Hood has admitted that he shot and killed Officer Buddy Christian in March 2010. He has also admitted he wounded Christian's partner Tony Howard in the same incident.

The previous judge in the case was removed because he was an acquaintance of the Howard family.

Hood's previous appearances in court have been characterized by emotional outbursts.

Judge Haggard indicated he would schedule an arraignment in the coming weeks.
