According to a filing with the Hall County Planning Department, Gold Creek began remodeling the Webb Girth Road facility in the summer and completed the work around Nov. 1. CEO and co-founder Mark Sosebee said in a letter to the planning department requesting the rezoning of two recently purchased lots near the plant that since Oct. 29 they've been "moving on average" 363,000 pounds of "finished" product per week, employing nearly 160 people on two shifts, Monday-Saturday.
"We are looking to provide another 200 jobs in 2013," Sosebee wrote, "and get into the value added business by cooking poultry products within the next 3-5 years."
Sosebee says Gold Creek has invested more than two million dollars in "renovating and updating this property."
The two lots the company wants rezoned are at 2338 and 2360 Webb Girth Road. Sosebee says there is a house on each of the lots and that they will remain. He says he expects one to be used for security and the other for job training and additional office space. Gold Creek wants the lots rezoned from AR-III to PID (Planned Industrial District).
The company's existing complex in that area, at 2320 Webb Girth Road, has, according to Sosebee, operated as an agriculture/poultry facility "for over 40 years."
The Hall County Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the rezoning request at a meeting on Dec. 17 at 5:15 at the new Hall County Government Center on Browns Bridge Road.
