Boys basketball: Knights continue hot start, win sixth straight

OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys matched their best start since the 2005-06 season with a 72-44 win over Lumpkin County Tuesday night at home.

The Knights improved to 6-0 on the season and will put their unbeaten streak on the line Friday night on the road at Chestatee.

The Knights jumped out to a 22-11 first quarter lead and then outscored the Indians 25-4 in the second quarter to blow the game open by halftime.

Lumpkin County trailed 68-34 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Kniughts 10-4 in the final period.

Johnson had 10 players score, led by Ty Cockfield with 16 points. Montrell McKenzie recorded his sixth consecutive double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and added five blocks in just two quarters of work.

Drew Dunham had 11 points and five assists for the Knights.

Lumpkin County (2-4) was paced by Daniel McCrary and Austin Holman with 12 points each.

Lumpkin County next will travel to White County on Friday.
