Boys basketball: Johnson crushes Lanier to move to 5-0

SUWANEE -- The Johnson boys basketball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 71-48 thumping of Lanier tonight in Suwanee. <br /> <br /> The Knights jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the 1st quarter and stretched the lead to 36-11 at the half. Johnson continued to push the game open, and led by as many as 35 (68-33) late in the game before Lanier cut into the lead in the last 2 minutes.<br /> <br /> Johnson (5-0) was led in scoring by Ty Cockfied with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Montrell McKenzie posted his 5th consecutive double-double with 16 points, 20 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Carter Cagle pitched in 12 points. Drew Dunham ran the team with 8 assists.<br /> <br /> Lanier was led by Jordan Davis with 14 points and Andre Irvin with 10 points.<br /> <br /> Johnson is back in action on Tuesday at home vs. Lumpkin County at 7:30 p.m.
