AHLONEGA - As it moves into the future, North Georgia College and State University honored a member of its recent past Friday.

University officials dedicated the Dr. David L. Potter Special Collections Room in the school library technology center.

Potter was the 16th president of North Georgia, serving from January 2005 until his retirement in July of last Summer.

Merryll Penson, executive director of library services of the USG, said Potter understood that a building does not make a library, and that his focus on student success is a large part of what created the Library Technology Center.

Potter received a standing ovation Friday as he accepted the dedication honor.

"I am deeply grateful for the support I have been shown today and during my time here as president," Potter said. "This university is distinguished by its broad connection to the community. North Georgia is a place you don't forget, largely because of the spirit of community and the meaningful relationships you build around the close-knit campus. Thank you so much for this wonderful honor."
