Georgia Department of Transportation officials said you should notice a couple of new additions to Georgia 400 in our area beginning Saturday.

According to DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope, a new third travel lane on 400 northbound from McGinnis Ferry Road to the Big Creek Greenway Bridge is scheduled to finish and open.

Also, crews expect to open a newly widened and extended entrance ramp from Abernathy Road to 400 northbound.

"The longer and wider ramp from Abernathy Road allows more vehicles to merge onto 400 more quickly. The additional two miles of a third lane on 400 north will aid motorists traveling farther into Forsyth County," DOT Commissioner Keith Golden said.

The $3.3 million project finished over two months ahead of schedule. Officials said the work was funded by the State Road and Tollway Authority's excess toll revenue as one of 12 400 improvement projects.
