Barrow County negotiating with top manager candidate

Barrow County's human resources director confirmed Thursday that the county has a top candidate for its county manager job.

Charlie Felts said Jock Connell was the top choice of the county's selection committee, made up of its six commissioners and incoming chairperson Pat Graham.

Felts, reached by e-mail, said he's currently in negotiations with Connell. If they reach agreement, Felts said the full commission would vote on the matter December 11, with Connell reporting for work in early January.

Connell served as interim Hall County Administrator prior to the hiring of Randy Knighton. Connell currently serves as a consultant for Hall County. His title is Special Projects Manager for Hall County, according to Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley.

Felts said the two other candidates for the position asked that their names be pulled from consideration, prior to Connell being named the top candidate earlier this week.
