GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Jaycees are now accepting nominations for the annual Young Man and Young Woman of the Year Award.

The award is presented to a young man and a young woman each year for their achievements in leadership and service to the community. Only men and women 40 years of age or younger that have lived in Hall County during 2012 are eligible.

The Young Man of the Year award was first given in 1946. The Jaycees began recognizing women in 2001. The awards have been sponsored every year by the Gainesville Jaycees with an honorary banquet and formal presentation of the awards. This year's winners were Brian Daniel and Kelly Lee.

The purpose of the award is not only to honor deserving young men and women, but also to inspire the community to pursue civic service with selfless devotion. Much is expected of these honorees. Many of have continued to make a difference in the community and held such positions as a federal judge, U.S. Congressmen, Governor, bank president and generous philanthropist.

All nominations must be postmarked no later than January 10, 2013. Nominations can be sent to Mr. Brian Daniel/Mrs. Kelly Lee, YMOW & YWOY Judging Committee Chair, P.O. Box 572, Gainesville, GA 30503 or via email to [email protected].

Earlier this week, the Rotary Club of Gainesville announced that it has begun accepting nominations for its Man and Woman of the Year Award. (See earlier story.)
