10 Eagles named to All-Southern Conference teams

STATESBORO -- In a second round of All-Conference Awards, 10 members of the Georgia Southern Football team were named All-Southern Conference by either College Sports Madness or Southern Pigskin.

Georgia Southern received four First Team honors between three players, including Dorian Byrd (Macon, Ga.), who was selected to the First Team by both websites. Dion DuBose (Norcross, Ga.) and Brent Russell (Comer, Ga.) were also named to the First Team by College Sports Madness and Southern Pigskin, respectively, after stellar seasons on the defensive line. DuBose and Russell combined for 13.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

Six other Eagles were also selected to the Second Team, including Javon Mention (Tampa, Fla.) and J.J. Wilcox (Cairo, Ga.). Mention finished the regular season with a team-best 8.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks, while Wilcox was second on the team with 72 tackles.

Other second team selections include linebacker John Stevenson (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who finished the regular season with a team-best 94 tackles, punt returner Darreion Robinson (Bishop, Ga.), safety Darius Eubanks (Thomson, Ga.) and offensive lineman Logan Daves (Blue Ridge, Ga.). Fellow lineman Blake DeBartola (Fayetteville, Ga.) was also named to the College Sports Madness third team after recording 9 starts in the trenches.

The Eagles host Central Arkansas in the second round of the FCS Playoffs on ESPN3 Saturday at 2 p.m.
