Turkey friers are one of the main culprits according to Cagle.
"Oddly enough you will never see a UL (Underwriters Laboratories) stamp or listing on a turkey frier. They don't test them. They're just way too dangerous," Cagle said.
He said firefighters would rather you didn't use them at all, but if you do, Cagle said there are several things to keep in mind.
"Being in a hurry, they do not thaw the bird all the way out, it still has some ice on it, or they overfill the container and then put the turkey in it, and it overflows and starts a fire."
And he said not to use turkey friers on a deck or close to your house.
Cagle said kitchen and cooking fires are the number one cause of residential fires in the county.
