MT AIRY - A vehicle chase ended abruptly when the fleeing Ford pickup truck smashed into a Dodge pickup east of Mt. Airy Thursday morning.

The wreck occurred on Dick's Hill Parkway at Hulsey Road around 10:45 a.m.

According to Cpl. Mike Hopkins of the the Georgia State Patrol's Post 7 in Toccoa, "One of the trucks was actually being pursued by DNR and the State Patrol. The vehicle failed to yield at an intersection, striking another vehicle and resulting in the crash."

There were three occupants in each truck. One person in the fleeing Ford pickup was unconscious.

"There was one that was actually flown to Atlanta - I believe it was to Grady if I'm not mistaken," Hopkins said. "I'm not real sure what the extent of the other injuries are at this time."

Several people were taken by ambulance from the scene.

Dick's Hill Parkway was shut down at Hulsey Road for almost three hours while the wreck was investigated and cleared.

Troopers are not yet releasing names and other details.

Officers also responded to a related minor collision on Highway 365 northbound at Hulsey Road.
