Boys basketball: Johnson stays hot, moves to 3-0

OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys basketball team defeated Cass 71-53 on Tuesday in the final game of the Johnson Tip-Off Classic in Oakwood.

The Knights jumped out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter but were outscored 16-10 in the second quarter to trim the lead to 31-25. But Johnson opened the third quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers from Carter Cagle to extend the lead back to 12 and led by double-digits the rest of the way.

Johnson was led in scoring by Cagle with 16 points. Roderick English scored 15. Montrell McKenzie added another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Ty Cockfield also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Drew Dunham chipped in 5 points and 10 assists.

Cass was led by Chris Darden with 12 points and Darius Thrower with 11.

Johnson (3-0) returns to action next Tuesday at home against Lakeview Academy.
