White County Fire Department spokeswoman Ana Newberry said those increasing flights are a result of the learning that's gone on in her field over the years.
"Things have changed not just in the way people drive, but the learning factor of the medical field itself," Newberry said.
"When it comes to any type of head trauma or body trauma, you're going to end up going to Grady (Hospital in Atlanta), and there's also the Gwinnett Medical Center, depending on the severity, type and mechanism of the injury," Newberry said.
She also said it's been a busy couple of months for first responders in the area when it comes to traffic accidents. While it varies from month to month, Newberry said wreck cases the last two months have been double and close to triple the amount they usually respond to.
Tuesday's wreck happened on Highway 115 near Duncan Bridge Road around 12:20 p.m. Newberry said the west side of 115 was blocked for about an hour and a half.
That female driver suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries according to Newberry. The driver of a second vehicle was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by a ground ambulance.
