CUMMING - A Cumming man was killed Friday morning when he veered into the path of a tractor trailer on Georgia Highway 369 in west Forsyth County.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Karleen Chalker said the fatal crash happened just after 7:30 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, 43-year-old Peter Trione's was traveling eastbound when his pick-up truck left the roadway near Hubert Martin Road.

She said as Trione pulled back onto Highway 369, he crossed into the westbound lane and was hit by an oncoming tractor trailer on the passenger side of his truck. Trione's vehicle was then pushed down the roadway and into the driveway of the home at 4415 Matt Hwy.

The tractor-trailer crossed back over the road and came to rest in a pasture, according to Chalker. She said the driver of the rig, 52-year-old Troy Lee Emanuel of Dahlonega, was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Chalker said the tractor trailer, owned by Mountain Milk of Gainesville, normally transports chickens, but Friday morning the vehicle was not loaded with live birds.

Highway 369 was closed for almost three hours while the wreckage was cleared. Chalker said it appears Trione was at fault in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
