Swafford, Clark named to Ga. firefighters assn. board

ATLANTA - The Georgia State Firefighters Association (GSFA) has named new board of directors who will oversee the affairs of the association. Created in 1952, GSFA serves as the largest organization for firefighters in the State of Georgia with more than 4,500 members statewide. Its mission is to serve, promote, advocate and represent the interests of fire, rescue and emergency services throughout the state.

GSFA board members are selected by voting delegates at the annual conference and serve two year terms. The new board members are as follows:

President: Lanier Swafford, Dawson County Emergency Services Fire Chief
First Vice President: Dean King, Donalsonville Fire Rescue Training Captain
Second Vice President: Capt. Joey Hartley, Moultrie Fire Department
Third Vice President: Lt. David Bullard, Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue
Director at Large: Lt. Gary Clark, Gainesville Fire Department
Treasurer: Gary McGhee, Fort Oglethorpe Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief
Immediate Past President: Scott Carter, Cartersville Fire Department Fire Chief
Chaplain: Ronnie Cowart, Cartersville Fire Department Training Chief
Parliamentarian: Eddie White, Rockdale County Fire Rescue (retired)

A primary goal for the incoming board of directors is to work collectively to develop an active member recruitment and retention program.

Membership in GSFA is $25 annually and includes access to GSFA events and education workshops; a subscription to Georgia Firefighter magazine as well as e-newsletters and legislative updates; an annual awards program; discounts on training manuals; and life insurance and line-of-duty death benefits.
