GAINESVILLE - Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle says a ban on outdoor burning is in effect in the county because of the dry, windy conditions. Check with your local fire department or the Georgia Forestry Commission to determine the status in your county.

The National Weather Service (NWS) early Friday issued a Red Flag Warning, cautioning against outdoor burning because of the dry, windy conditions which have plagued north Georgia for several days. (See link below.)

State laws require individuals to obtain a burn permit before doing any
outdoor burning. If conditions are deemed safe, permits can be obtained at the Georgia Forestry Commission's website, www.gatrees.org, or by calling 1-877-OK2-BURN. Also, anyone starting a campfire or other warming fire should make sure that it is cool to the touch before leaving it unattended.
